The Big Easy 2017 Frequently Asked Questions

What time does The Big Easy 2017 start?

The Big Easy will officially start at 10:00am from Havelock North Chalk n Cheese, and wrap up at 6pm with the end of the concert at Church Road Winery. This year there will be rolling starts to help ease congestion on the start line so your start time may vary.

There will also be a Family Start at Clive which will roll out at 10:30am

How much does it cost to enter The Big Easy?

It costs $35 for Adults and $15 for Children ages 15 and under to enter The Big Easy.

How far is it from the Clive Family Start to Church Road Winery?

When do registrations close?

Online registration will close at midday Wednesday April 12th. There may be limited 'on the day' registrations available at both Havelock North and Clive starts however spots are limited so we highly recommend pre-registering.

Please note: to be guaranteed a T-Shirt you must register by the close of business on Wednesday March 15th. After that time T-shirts will be allocated online on a first in, first served basis - If your T-shirt size is still available online you are good to go!

What do I get in my registration pack?

You will receive a Cycle The Big Easy T-Shirt*, Cycle The Big Easy wristband (allowing you access to all the deals along the way and access to the concert) as well as information on all the awesome deals you can find on the route.

Please note: to be guaranteed a T-Shirt you must register by the close of business on Wednesday March 15th. After that time T-shirts will be allocated online on a first in, first served basis - If your T-shirt size is still available online you are good to go!

Where and when do I pick up my registration pack?

You can pick up your registration pack from either Havelock North Chalk n Cheese between 8:30am and 10:00am or Farndon Park (Clive Family Start) between 9:00am and 10:30am on April 15th (the morning of the event) depending on where you are registered to start from.

Please note: You must pick up your registration pack from the location you have selected to start from, either Havelock North Domain or Farndon Park in Clive.

Will there be all day parking available?

Yes, there will be parking available at Havelock North Chalk n Cheese, Clive and at Church Road Winery. Please look for the signs and don't park anywhere you shouldn't!

What are the t-shirt measurements?

Kids t-shirts:
Small - Size 6 - 37cm wide x 50cm long Medium - Size 10 - 42cm wide x 58cm long Large - Size 14 - 47cm wide x 66cm long

Adults t-shirts:

Small - 46cm wide x 71cm long Medium - 50cm wide x 74cm long Large - 54cm wide x 77cm long X-Large - 58cm wide x 80cm long XX-Large - 62cm wide x 83cm long

Can I register on the day?

There may be a limited number of registrations available on the day at both the Church Road and Clive start, we strongly advise that you pre-register to avoid disappointment.

What transport options are there for me and my bike?

There will be transport from Church Road Winery starting at 8:00am (last transfer departs at 9:00am sharp) to Havelock North Chalk n Cheese before the event and from Church Road Winery back to Havelock North after the event available at a cost of $10 per person one way. This includes buses for riders and trucks for the bikes. Book your spot when you register to make sure you've got a seat.

There will also be buses departing from Church Road Winery at 9:00am to the Clive Family Start and returning there at the end of the event. Please book when you purchase your ticket.

This option is to be taken at your own risk. The organisers take no responsibility for any damage or loss to bikes should you use this option.

I don't have a bike, can I hire one?

Of course you can, there are loads of places to hire a bike in Hawke's Bay. Take a look at our bike hire page for details or email us at rideyourbike@thebigeasy.co.nz and we can help you book a bike.

Can I bring my kids with me?

Children are welcome to register for The Big Easy and ride with a supervising adult at the cost of $15 per child (15 years and younger). This year there will be a Family Start in Clive to help little legs make it to the finish line.

What to bring with you on the day.

  • Your printed registration form.
  • Your Bike - we recommend that you have this safety checked
  • Bike helmet – check that it fits correctly - helmet is to fit snugly under the chin, and two fingers should fit under the chin strap. Helmets are compulsory
  • Closed-in Running Shoes & socks
  • Any medication you may need during the event
  • Drink bottle and water
  • Sunscreen
  • A jacket to make sure you're not cold at the end of the event
  • Cash on hand for refreshments along the way
  • A padlock for your bike.

Are the roads closed? All public roads will remain open to vehicles, please be safety conscious and aware of your surroundings at all times.

What time does the concert start?

The concert will start at 2pm. Gate will be open from 1:30pm.

What if I just want to go to the concert at Church Road Winery?

There may be limited door sales available depending on ticket availability. To guarantee yourself a ticket please register online .

Can I bring my own alcohol to the concert at Church Road Winery?

Sorry, there is a no BYO policy in place for Church Road Winery. There will be alcohol available to purchase on site.

What happens if it rains?

The Big Easy will go on! Riders in Hawke's Bay aren't afraid of rain!

What happens if the event is cancelled?

In the event that The Big Easy is cancelled refunds will be given. If you think the event may be cancelled please check the website for more information.

What happens if I want to return my ticket?

I'm sorry, no ticket returns will be given unless under extreme circumstances. If you feel this applies to you please contact us at rideyourbike@thebigeasy.co.nz

Can I bring my dog with me?

No, sorry, due to the safety risks to both your dog and other riders we do not allow dogs to participate in The Big Easy.
